The Safety Vest Vented with Leg Straps is designed for the type of patient who needs extra security that cannot be provided with other safety Items. It is based on a sleeveless pullover design. It has a shoulder strap and two leg straps. These help prevent the Vest from riding up from around the patient’s waist. It also helps prevent them from sliding down chairs or beds.
About the Safety Vest Vented with Leg Straps
The webbing straps are long enough for large lounge chairs and can be reduced for use on wheelchairs. Different colour webbing is used for the shoulder and leg straps so when doing them up, they will easily be identified. When dressing the patient, make sure the Leg Straps are in front of the patient, so they can be placed under each leg. Thread the leg webbing through the leg loops, before fastening the webbing to the chair or bed. The Leg and Shoulder straps should be wound around the chair frame as many times as possible before fastening together.
When using in bed, wrap the shoulder and leg straps on both sides around the bed frame as many times as possible before fastening. Take the straps lower down the bed than the patient’s shoulders to prevent them wriggling up the bed. The leg straps should be wrapped around the bed frame higher than the groin. This is to prevent the patient sliding down the bed.
Also consider other alternatives such as the Zip-A-Bed or the Bed Fall Mats.

Examples of a suitable person who is able to sign the letter are: Occupational Therapist; Physiotherapist; Clinical Nurse Manager; Registered Nurse; Doctor; or another suitably qualified person.
